Solwezi
Solwezi is a city in north-western Zambia and the capital of North-Western Province. It serves as a major hub for copper mining in the country, situated in the heart of Zambia's mineral-rich Copperbelt region. The city has experienced significant growth over the past two decades, driven by expansion of large-scale mining operations in the surrounding area. Solwezi's economy is dominated by the mining sector, with several major copper mines operating in the district. The city provides administrative, commercial and logistical support to the mining industry, housing both mining company offices and service providers. Infrastructure development has accelerated alongside mining investment, including improvements to roads, power supply and telecommunications. Solwezi's population has grown substantially as the mining sector has attracted workers and their families from across Zambia and beyond. The city's strategic importance to Zambia's copper production makes it a focal point for mining investment and policy discussions. Solwezi was established as a colonial administrative centre in the early twentieth century but remained relatively small until the modern mining boom transformed its economic profile.
