Asia Pacific leaders met in Bangkok today with high hopes of
salvaging multilateral trade talks that broke down last month in
Cancun, Mexico, over the divisive issue of trade protectionism.
Senior officials from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
(Apec) member nations have agreed their leaders should issue a
message of support for global trade talks which collapsed last
month.
Nearly 50 African nations and the international community today
discussed peace and the failure of global trade talks as they began
the second day of a three-day conference on African development...

A new and expanding alliance of developing countries yesterday left
a doomed WTO conference empty-handed but far from despondent,
having flexed its new-found muscles.
The World Trade Organization's Cancun conference, called to
galvanise momentum toward a new multilateral trade accord,
collapsed yesterday, done in by a bitter North-South rift.
