Presidency
The Presidency is the executive office of the head of state in South Africa, responsible for coordinating the work of government and supporting the President in fulfilling constitutional duties. It serves as the administrative and policy hub for the President's functions, including strategic planning, policy coordination and intergovernmental relations. The office is headed by the President of South Africa and includes the Deputy President, with support from a director-general and various departments. Key functions include managing Cabinet processes, overseeing the implementation of government priorities, coordinating communication across government departments and handling international relations. The Presidency also houses units such as the Policy Coordination and Advisory Services unit, which provides research and analysis to inform decision-making. It plays a central role in shaping national policy direction and ensuring coherence across government programmes. The office is based in the Union Buildings in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. The Presidency operates under the constitutional framework established in 1996, which defines the powers and responsibilities of the executive branch. It has evolved to become a key institution in South Africa's democratic governance, coordinating responses to economic, social and international challenges.
