Joe Biden
Joe Biden is an American politician who served as the 46th President of the United States from January 2021 to January 2025. He is a member of the Democratic Party and previously served as Vice-President under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. Before his vice-presidency, Biden represented Delaware in the US Senate for 36 years, from 1973 to 2009, becoming one of the longest-serving senators in American history. During his presidency, Biden focused on infrastructure investment, climate policy and domestic manufacturing, including efforts to secure supply chains for critical minerals and promote clean energy transitions. His administration implemented policies affecting mining and resource development, balancing environmental protection with economic and national security considerations. Biden's tenure saw significant legislative initiatives including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, both of which contained provisions relevant to mining, minerals processing and energy sectors. He faced opposition from Republican lawmakers and industry groups on certain environmental and land-use decisions. Prior to his Senate career, Biden practised law and served on the New Castle County Council in Delaware. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1942 and has been a prominent figure in American politics for more than five decades.
