GCIS
GCIS (Government Communication and Information System) is the South African government agency responsible for coordinating communication between government and the public. The organisation manages the dissemination of official government information, policies and programmes across multiple platforms and channels. GCIS operates under the Presidency and serves as the central point for government communication strategy and implementation. Its mandate includes ensuring that citizens have access to accurate, timely information about government services, initiatives and decisions. The agency coordinates communication activities across all national departments and spheres of government to maintain consistency and coherence in public messaging. GCIS also manages media relations, organises government events and briefings, and maintains official government communication infrastructure. The organisation plays a key role in promoting transparency and accountability by facilitating the flow of information between the State and South African citizens. GCIS was established to professionalise government communication and ensure that public resources allocated to communication are used effectively and efficiently.
