FW De Klerk Foundation
The FW De Klerk Foundation is a South African nonprofit organisation established to promote constitutional democracy, good governance and human rights. The foundation was created by FW de Klerk, South Africa's last apartheid-era president, who served from 1989 to 1994 and shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Nelson Mandela in 1993 for their roles in negotiating the end of apartheid. The organisation's mandate centres on advancing the principles of the South African Constitution, fostering national dialogue and supporting the rule of law. It conducts research, publishes policy papers and engages in public advocacy on issues affecting democratic governance in South Africa and beyond. The foundation also works to preserve and communicate the legacy of the political transition that brought about South Africa's democracy. It operates from South Africa and participates in international forums on democracy and human rights. Following FW de Klerk's death in November 2021, the foundation has continued its work under new leadership. The organisation remains active in public debate on constitutional matters, minority rights and the health of South African democratic institutions.
