Exxaro
Exxaro is a South African diversified resources company focused on coal and minerals production. The company is headquartered in Pretoria and operates primarily in South Africa, with coal mining forming the core of its business alongside manganese and other mineral interests. Exxaro is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and is one of the country's largest black-empowered mining companies, with significant broad-based black economic empowerment credentials. The company's coal operations include the Grootegeluk coal mine in the Waterberg coalfield of Limpopo, which supplies Eskom's Medupi power station, as well as other thermal and export coal assets. Exxaro has diversified into manganese production through its stake in Tshipi Borwa, a major manganese mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field in the Northern Cape. The company has also invested in renewable energy through Cennergi, its renewable energy subsidiary, which operates wind and solar facilities including the Tsitsikamma Community Development Wind Farm and the Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm. Exxaro employs thousands of people across its operations and generates annual revenues in the billions of rand. In recent years, the company has positioned itself to navigate the energy transition by balancing its traditional coal business with investments in cleaner energy and battery minerals. Exxaro was established in 2006 following the unbundling of Kumba Resources, inheriting a portfolio of coal, mineral sands and energy assets.
