Department Of Justice
The Department of Justice is a government department responsible for administering the justice system and upholding the rule of law in South Africa. The department's mandate includes ensuring access to justice for all citizens, maintaining the integrity of the courts, and overseeing the administration of justice services. It works closely with the judiciary, the National Prosecuting Authority, and other law enforcement agencies to ensure the effective functioning of the legal system. The department manages court infrastructure, provides legal aid services, and oversees the implementation of legislation related to justice and constitutional matters. It also handles matters relating to the appointment of judges and magistrates, working in conjunction with the Judicial Services Commission. The department plays a key role in constitutional development, law reform, and the protection of human rights. It is responsible for the administration of estates, the registration of trusts, and the management of the Guardian's Fund. The department operates across all nine provinces of South Africa, with regional offices and courts serving communities nationwide. It falls under the authority of the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, who is appointed by the President.
