The company operates in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions, providing a broad range of financial products and services to consumers, corporations, governments and institutions. Citigroup is organised into two primary business segments: Institutional Clients Group, which serves corporate, institutional and public-sector clients with banking, markets and securities services, and Personal Banking and Wealth Management, which delivers retail banking, credit cards and wealth advisory services. The bank is a major player in investment banking, including mergers and acquisitions advisory, equity and debt capital markets, and commodities and foreign exchange trading. The corporation was formed in 1998 through the merger of Citicorp and Travelers Group, creating what was then the world's largest financial services organisation. Following the 2008 financial crisis, Citigroup underwent significant restructuring and regulatory oversight, divesting non-core businesses and strengthening its capital position.
