Cape Town International Airport has been ranked as Africa’s best.

The airport won the accolade at the SkyTrax World Airport Awards, hosted in Germany last night (16 March 2016).

In addition, the staff at Cape Town International Airport was named as Best Airport Staff in Africa,

Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, said the awards are based on surveys from over 13 million passengers across the world.

The surveys took place June 2015 to February 2016 and involved 550 airports globally.

In a statement on its website, the awards said the rating was the “global benchmark of airport excellence”.

Minister Winde commended Deon Cloete, Cape Town International Airport general manager, and his team on their achievement.

“Cape Town International Airport is consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. As one of the first touch points visitors have when they reach our region, the airport team make sure tourists feel welcome here. These awards speak to the high standard of service the Western Cape is internationally known for,” said Minister Winde.
