African National Congress (ANC) Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Mzwandile Masina has promised to fast-track service delivery and tackle unemployment in the municipality.

ANC Gauteng chairperson Paul Mashatile formally introduced Masina as the party’s mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni at the launch of the party's local government manifesto in Katlehong township, in Johannesburg, on Thursday.

Among the party representatives in attendance were ANC deputy secretary- general Jessie Duarte and Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula, as well as the outgoing Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele

Masina said he was grateful to the party’s National Executive Committee for trusting him with the position. He promised to continue Gungubele’s vision and to fast-track service delivery to better the lives of residents.

He added that he would introduce fresh ideas such as using information technology to enhance service delivery.

“We will also look at how government carries out its work, because some projects, such as meter reading, could be done without going through tender systems,” said Masina.

He also promised to electrify all informal settlements in the municipality and service land for those who might be able to build houses for themselves.

He added that ANC members should understand that there were no enemies within the organisation.

“Our enemies are the DA, the EFF and all other opposition parties. We should work together and stop infighting within the organisation,” stated Masina.
