Top entrepreneurs in the Western Cape’s agriculture sector are called to enter the Female Entrepreneur Awards.

Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, encouraged women to enter the competition, which closes on 3 June.

The Female Entrepreneur Awards is a partnership between the National Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the provincial departments of Agriculture.

In 2015, a Western Cape female farmer, Tenjiwe Kaba, was selected as one of the country’s top agri-entrepreneurs. Kaba leads Moyo We Khaya, a community garden in Khayelitsha tended by women farming in vegetables. This group stood out for the excellent service they deliver to the community and for the inspiration they provide other residents. After winning the subsistence producer category in the Western Cape leg of the awards, Kaba was announced as one of the top winners at the national event.

The provincial winner will be announced in August, as part of Women’s Month.
