WCape SACP to join #UniteBehind against corruption and looting

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape and its coalition partners have recently thrown its support behind a day of action organized by the #UniteBehind movement, which is expected to take place on Friday.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to make new representations on Friday to the National Prosecuting Authority on why he should not be prosecuted for corruption.

In a statement, the SACP said the protest was an extremely significant day for South Africans.

The party added that the protest was expected to take the form of a “mock trial” of Zuma and a number of individuals deeply implicated in corporate capture and looting of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

“We have been consistent in condemning all forms of widespread corruption, looting, mismanagement and maladministration within the State. These acts have plunged our country into an economic abyss, severely crippling the developmental capacity of the State, the effectiveness of SOEs, the reliability and safety of our public transport system and completely eroding the confidence that our people have in government and the movement,” the party said.

The SACP also called on the working class, its alliance partners and all progressive people to join the mass protest by #UniteBehind.
