Update on employment bills

The Basic Conditions of Employment Amendment Bill  -  This Bill has been approved in the National Assembly (NA). A Select Committee intends holding public hearings on this Bill. Written comments on this Bill had to be submitted to the Select Committee before 25 September 2013.

Employment Equity Amendment Bill - The Portfolio Committee in the National Assembly  has concluded deliberations, and granted in-principle approval with few change. The B version of the  Bill will now be submitted to the NA for approval.

Employment Services Bill  - The Portfolio Committee is still to schedule further meetings on this Bill.

Labour Relations Amendment Bill  - The Portfolio Committee of the NA has approved the B version of the Bill, and sent it to the National Council of Provinces. The Select Committee intends holding public hearings on this  Bill. Written comments had to be submitted to the Select Committee before 25 September 2013.

At this stage it is unknown when exactly any of these Bills will enacted, but the process is well under way and it is just a matter of time because these Bills become law.

Draft Employment Tax Incentive Bill  - This Bill has been published for comment. Written comments should be submitted to the National Treasury by the close of business on Friday, 11 October 2013 and the Bill  is expected to be implemented from January 2014.
