UJ: UJ extends condolences on the passing of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela

It is with profound sadness that the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has learned about the passing of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

She was a life-long servant of the people; her contribution to South African political and cultural life has captured the imagination of the world.
As a political stalwart, her activism and resistance demonstrated her commitment to the struggle against inequalities, unemployment and poverty.

Warm and forever reaching out to the vulnerable, Mama Winnie never tired of giving her time.

The well-being of all of the people of this country is a reflection of her life’s work to the struggle for liberation and has kept the embers of resistance alive and she has lived through and witnessed the major events that shaped South Africa, Africa and the world.

Our responsibility is to pick where she left off and continue to transform our society. Her superb dedication and resolve shall eternally be etched in our collective memory.

Like Isithwalandwe, Mama Winnie wears the plumes of a rare bird - UJ salute you Nkosazana
