UDM: UDM laments the rise of mall killings

Bantu Holomisa

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) calls upon mall developers and owners to take appropriate safety measures in protecting consumers in malls and other public spaces. The shooting of innocent people in these places cannot be tolerated and it can be curbed if well-equipped security companies can be put in place. The owners are only interested in making more profit at the expense of consumers’ lives. It must be consumers’ safety first.

There have been a rise of shooting incidents in public spaces all over the country since the year started and it is clear that community members are not safe and this is worrisome especially now that festive season is two months away.

When the idea of building these malls was mooted from the word go, the nation was promised safer environment but now it is not the case as people are being mauled day in and day out.

It has become clear that law breakers are opting and see malls as an easy way to make quick cash, that is why as UDM we call upon mall owners to begin to hire well equipped security officers who will provide efficient service other than personnels with ordinary batons.

During these shootings, not only are the citizens at risks but the very same securities are targeted because they are a soft target.
