UASA: Fuel price shock will hit workers hardest

As of midnight today the price of petrol will increase by 44 cents a litre for 93 octane. This will have a detrimental effect on motorists, but also consumers in general and inflation, with workers carrying the bulk of the load.

The agreement reached by OPEC's members to possibly limit oil production for the first time since 2008, by 700 000 barrels a day, is worrisome as it may well push up fuel prices further, placing an added burden on workers.

UASA urges its members to live frugally, pulling in their belts, and not make any unnecessary debt.
