TRANSPORT MINISTER AND DEPUTY MINISTER TO INTENSIFY ROAD SAFETY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS DURING THE EASTER WEEKEND

The Minister of Transport, Mr Joe Maswanganyi and the Deputy Minister Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, will conduct road safety education, awareness and law enforcement activities at the Wanderers taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD on Tuesday, 11 April 2017.

The visit forms part of the Department of Transport’s 2017 Easter Road Safety Campaign and it comes ahead of the long Easter weekend.

During this period South Africans are expected to travel long distances to different destinations.

The aim of the visit is to drive the road safety education, awareness and enforcement ahead of the long weekend.  Minister and Deputy Minister’s activities will focus on passengers specifically on their role to be alert, active participants through-out their journey and watch-out for symptoms of fatigue on their drivers.

The passenger’s role is to ensure that the driver does not use the mobile phone and does not take or be given alcohol but water whilst driving.
