Transnet pensioners to protest at the Union Buildings

23rd April 2014

The impoverished Transnet pensioners, who have already launched a class action court action against Transnet and the government due to the plundering of their pension funds over a period of 20 years, will be broadcasting their plight further through a public protest action at the Union Buildings on Thursday 24 April 2014.

During the protest action a petition will be handed to the President’s office to ask for his urgent intervention. The pensioners are becoming poorer by the day due to the small annual increase of their pensions by only 2% which is in shrill contrast to the promises that the Transnet management had made to pensioners with regards to a human retirement.

All Transnet pensioners and their families and friends are invited to participate in the march.

The details are as follows:

Date                         :           Thursday 24 April 2014

Gathering point    :           Pretoria Art Museum, c/o Schoeman and Wessels Streets
The march will take place from the Art Museum to the gardens at the foot of the Union Buildings which is approximately one block away. After everyone has gathered on the grass, a delegation will move to the Union Building to hand the petition to a representative of the presidency.

Time                        :           08:00
