In November 2014, Transnet awarded a five-year contract to Neotel to provide network related services. This followed an open and competitive procurement process.
The Transnet Board of Directors investigates all matters brought to its attention. All contracts are reviewed through stringent governance processes and are in line with Transnet policies and procedures.
The Mail & Guardian was informed as follows:
·         Transnet has been advised by Neotel that an independent investigation  commissioned by Neotel revealed no wrongdoing or corruption by any Transnet executive;
·         The Group Chief Financial Officer of Transnet was not party to Neotel’s appointment or engagement of a third party; and
·         That Transnet or any of its executives cannot be held responsible for decisions taken by its suppliers or contractors.

There is therefore no basis for suggesting impropriety or breach of our governance procedures by the company or any individual.
This information was relayed to the Mail & Guardian prior to the publication of an article on Friday, 31 July 2015. They nonetheless proceeded to publish, omitting the above relevant information as provided by Transnet.
This is counter to appropriate journalistic standards. Irresponsible reporting of this nature can be harmful to the company’s reputation. Until such time that the Mail & Guardian provides proof of any misconduct, the company will reconsider its relationships with the publication.
