Tourism awards for Western Cape sector

28th September 2016

To mark Tourism Month, the sector’s top establishments will be announced this week.
Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, said the Lilizela Awards would take place on Friday, 30 September.

An initiative of the National Department of Tourism, the awards seek to celebrate excellence in tourism.

Minister Winde said: “We expect our tourism establishments to feature strongly at the awards. We know we have top class products, and we wish them the very best of luck in the competition. Tourism is one of fastest growing sectors, supporting 204 000 jobs across the Western Cape.

This sector is allowing entrepreneurs to make a meaningful contribution to the economy, and through Project Khulisa we’ve set ourselves the goal of increasing the size of the tourism sector.  We are seeking to add up to 100 000 tourism jobs to the economy through a set of detailed action plans. The private sector are our valuable partners in reaching this goal; it is through their efforts that we are consistently ranked among the world’s best tourism destinations.”
