The South African Human Rights Commission is calling for Submissions on the Sale of Fake and Expired Goods

On Wednesday, 29 August 2018, the South African Human Rights Commission (“The Commission”) was made aware of incidents of looting and unrest in Soweto and surrounding townships following allegations of the sale of fake and expired goods by foreign owned shops. Following careful assessment of the reports and site visit to Soweto, the Commission has determined that it will hold an inquiry on 12 & 13 September 2018 as part of its investigation into the possible human rights violations that arise as a result of the alleged manufacture and sale of fake and/or expired goods.

Members of the Soweto community and surrounding areas, organisations, interested parties and shop owners are invited to make written submissions to the Commission in order to fully address the issues for investigation.

Written submissions must reach the Commission by Friday, 19 October 2018.
