Sudan’s parliament will introduce its 2018 draft election law for its third and final reading on Thursday, the head of the parliamentary sub-committee on legislation, justice and human rights, Osman Nimir said.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Nimir said the parliament had achieved 90 percent consensus on the draft law, adding there were minor differences on three issues only, the Sudan Tribune reported.

The draft had been delayed for it to reach consensus on three remaining issues. Objections were raised in June by several politicians taking part in the national dialogue.

Political parties participating in the government-led national dialogue signed the document, which included the outline for a future constitution pending approval, in October 2016.

However, in May a coalition of some opposition leftist parties, the National Consensus Forces (NCF), announced they would boycott the 2020 elections.

Conversely other opposition groups from the opposition Sudan Call forces were considering taking part in the forthcoming elections if President Omar Al Bashir’s government provided guarantees for a free and fair election and ensured freedoms.
