Science and Technology hosts South African Women in Science Awards Gala Dinner

14th August 2014

As part of National Women's Month, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) will celebrate the achievements of South African women scientists and researchers by hosting the South African Women in Science Awards Gala Dinner.

The awards are aimed at rewarding women scientists and researchers, and encouraging younger women to follow in their footsteps. The awards are made to South African citizens or permanent residents only.

This year's event will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday, 15 August, at 18h00, under the theme "Twenty years of democracy and freedom: The changing landscape of women's participation in science and technology education, training and employment".

Prof. Glenda Gray, President of the Medical Research Council, will deliver the keynote address.  Prof. Gray is a National Research Foundation A-rated researcher, who trained as a medical doctor and paediatrician at the University of the Witwatersrand, co-founded and led the internationally renowned Perinatal HIV Research Unit, based at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

Media are invited.
