The South African Security Forces union (SASFU) noted with shock media reports in the City Press that Mr Brian Molefe who is an honorary colonel within the SA Irish regiment on part time basis, appointees in these positions and ranks are don’t enjoy the status of reserve force members and are therefore not eligible to payment when called upon.

It is reported that Mr Molefe was employed on 23 August 2017 and backdated to 17th of the same month to enable him to receive a salary of R57,000.00 a month which he is not entitled to in terms of the regime on which he is enlisted.

It is our view that this is a case of corruption and we call on the minister to reverse this decision and recover all monies paid to Mr Molefe and launch an investigation into this matter and take appropriate action. We also call on the president, his excellence JG Zuma as commander in chief of the armed forces to investigate this matter and take appropriate action against anyone involved in these shenanigans.

SASFU shall not sit back and watch the integrity of the defense force dragged into the mud, should we feel failed by authorities, we won’t hesitate to take whatever action necessary to ensure the integrity of the defense force is not eroded.
