The South African Security Forces Union (SASFU) welcomes and supports the call by the Minister of Police, Honourable Fikile Mbalula for the deployment of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) troops in the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces to combat violent crimes. In this regard, SASFU believes that:-

1. This will give our well-trained reserve members of the force an opportunity to serve our country and ensure the safety of its citizens in the fight against violent crimes.

2. Recognising that the citizens of Gauteng and the Western Cape experience the most violent of crimes, the deployment should be extended to other provinces as well. The safety and security of all people within our borders is of paramount importance.

Anyone using excessive force against men, women, children and the elderly is a threat to national security, peace and security of our country.

We commend the Ministry of police and its members for their continued efforts to combating crime as well as their inclination to call on the SANDF to work with them to restore safety and security of our citizens and all people within our borders.
