SAPS: Police warns against University of Limpopo bursary scam

Police have discovered there is a lady  constantly calling all the Students of the University of Limpopo who have applied for the  Provincial Department of Education’s bursary funding to further their studies next year 2016 allegedly using the name Mapula Lefang from the Department’s Human  Resource Development – Finance Section.

According to information received, today is the closing date for the submission of applications for Bursary Funding by the Department of Education to the Students in need. The woman who seems to have accessed privileged information of the Students (Applicants ) is said to be calling the applicants and informing them that their applications have been successful and further that they must therefore deposit an amount of R970 into the Department of Education’s STD Bank  Account No: 10074162843 in order for them to activate the said Bursary. Applicants are allegedly in the process advised that after depositing, a proof of payment to that effect should be send to fax No: 0865676523 with their names and ID’s as reference to such payments.

We would like to state it very clear that investigations were done with both the University and the Department of Education and that the information as provided by there  so called Mapula Lefang  could not be confirmed as true by either of them. Parents and Students ( Applicants ) are hereby warned to distance themselves from the said con- lady.
