SAPS: Police arrests father and son for posession of home-made guns

The Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court has on Thursday granted a R2 000 bail to Willem Nel Jnr who was arrested together with his father for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Hammanskraal, outside Pretoria.

His father, Willem Nel Snr (49), had his case provisionally withdrawn. When the Hawks together with the National Intervention Unit and the Inspectors of the Environmental Management raided the suspects’ house they found a .38 revolver, a 12 gage shotgun, three home-made 12 gage shotguns as well as 1124 live ammunition for various firearms.

The Environmental Management Inspectors, who have a pending case against Willem Nel Snr, also saved 81 different animals after Nel Snr failed to produce permits authorising him to have such animals in his yard.

The case against a 21-year-old Willen Nel Jnr was postponed to 20 January 2016 to allow for further police investigations.
