Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic
A mainly desert territory in north-west Africa, Western Sahara is the subject of a decades-long dispute between Morocco and the Algerian-backed Polisario Front. A guerrilla war in the region ended in 1991, with a UN-brokered ceasefire. However, a referendum on final status has been repeatedly postponed. This country, which is only recognised partially amongst many countries in the world, was only officially registered by South Africa in 2004. The country's official language is Arabic.
