SADTU Gauteng is deeply saddened by the unfortunate death of 18 learners from Refano Primary and Mahlenga Secondary school, a General Assistant who was employed at Refano Primary school, and a minibus driver, due to a fatal collision between the minibus and a truck on 21 April 2017. The minibus was ferrying them to their homes after school.  Other learners were rescued and taken to KwaMhlanga hospital.

This is a huge loss to the nation.  We convey our condolences to all the bereaved families and wish them strength during this very difficult moment.  We also wish those who are hospitalized speedy recovery.

SADTU will be part of all stakeholders to provide all the necessary support to the educators, learners and parents of the two affected schools.
