Sadtu: Sadtu condemns the shooting of NATU Deputy President

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) strongly condemns the attack on NATU Deputy President, Allen Thompson in Durban yesterday. Armed people shot at his car through the front seat narrowly missing his head and hit his shoulder.

Thompson may not be our member but he is one of us in the teaching profession and in the fight for better conditions of service and quality education. Just a week ago, NATU and Sadtu members picketed outside the provincial parliament  during the Education Budget Vote presentation demanding among others, better conditions of service of Grade R practitioners

In light of increasing violent attacks in KwaZulu Natal, we call on the police to leave no stone unturned in hunting down and arresting the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

We wish Thompson a speedy recovery.

An injury to one is an injury to all.
