SADTU LP: SADTU Limpopo Province statement on the 2016 matric examinations

Whilst the Union wishes all matriculants in Limpopo and across the country best of luck in their 2016 matric examinations, we want to condemn any attempts by the department or any official not to allow our children to write all subjects they wish to write during this current round of examinations.

The Union calls on all learners who have registered for matric to come in their numbers to write English on the 26 October 2016 and all other subjects to follow. No learners should be at home and not write any subjects on the basis that the department modularised them or refused them the opportunity to write. All SADTU members and teachers will be out to ensure that there is no learner denied the opportunity to write any subjects.

It is regrettable that the department is preoccupied by results at the expense of the future of our children. They want to shine with fake results that do not represent the real situation in terms of the number of learners passed.

Parents and learners should know that it would be difficult to obtain certificates for modularised learners because the criteria used by the department does not allow for modularisation.

It should be noted that modularisation is not assessment policy of the department in terms of pass /progression requirements and therefore no learner could be forced to write few subjects.

The Limpopo Department of Education and Department Basic Education have failed to provide support programmes for progressed learners and parents should not be fooled that these learners would be provided with multi-pronged exam opportunity. On several occasions; the department failed to implement any support programmes for learners; e.g. no winter and spring classes in the past few years. How will they deliver this time around?

Modularization must fall!!!
Best of luck to all matriculants
