SADTU KZN: SADTU KZN on fraud and corruption in Umzinyathi District

SADTU KZN has unveiled hidden corruption and fraud by employees in the District of Umzinyathi.

KZN SADTU has always argued that the department does have money which, if used properly, can address the backlog in the provision of resources to enhance quality teaching and learning.

During the bilateral meeting that we had on the 23rd of June we discovered that employees easily lie with traveling claims which they are not entitled to; but the worse form of fraud is the case of an employee (Union has her name) working in the pension section who is defrauding the state by adding unknown beneficiaries when families of deceased employees are making pension claims from the  Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF).

It shocked us to learn that the District manager was aware of the scam but nothing was done to the employee except to redeploy the employee to another section in the same district.

All this confirms what SADTU has always been raising that the Employee Relations is very selective in dealing with disciplinary issues wherein the focus is on school based educators who are easily suspended even where there is no ground for such.

SADTU demands that action be taken against this employee and an investigation be done to root out corruption and fraud in the district.

SADTU will provide names of the employees involved in the scam.
