KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has called on motorists to strictly adhere to the rules of the road ahead of the royal wedding that will take place tomorrow at the Royal Zulu Palace in Ulundi.

The main routes that will be used include is R34 between Vryheid and Melmoth and the R66 Eshowe to Gingindlovu - both which may connect to the N2 and other corridors. Previously there have been numerous accidents that occurred on these routes including the death of 11  people in a bus accident last September - including nine maidens and two minders - while returning from the annual Umkhosi woMhlanga (reed dance) held in Nongoma.

“I would like to caution all motorists and road users who will be using the R34 and R66 routes to be mindful of the expected increase in traffic this weekend ahead of the royal wedding tomorrow.  While our law enforcement teams will be deployed and visible on the road, I call on all road users to play their responsible parts to ensure that accidents are prevented and people's lives are safeguarded.  It is important that the royal wedding goes well and to this end we wish Isilo samabandla and his bride to be (LaMafu), a happy ceremony.  As a province, we remain zero tolerant to traffic violations and our clear message is that those who break the law will face due punishment," said Mchunu.
