SA: Scopa to hold regular hearings with SABC until its finances are in order

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has committed itself to meet regularly with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) until its finances are in order. SABC appeared before Scopa today to answer on irregular expenditure amounting to R5.1bn and fruitless and wasteful expenditure amounting to R92m.

The Committee has requested written reports from the SABC on a number of issues related to procurement and human resources matters by next week Wednesday. Scopa is also considering visiting SABC offices to conduct an in loco inspection in order to get an in-depth understanding of some of the issues affecting the broadcaster.
