A joint meeting of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) and the Portfolio Committee on Social Development today met with the Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, officials from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Mr Siyabonga Cwele, officials from the South African Post Office (Sapo) and officials from National Treasury.

The Committee resolved to sit again tomorrow at 6 pm to receive a report from both Sassa and Sapo on progress made towards addressing the deadlock on the social grant contract.

The co-chairs of the meeting, Mr Themba Godi and Ms Zoleka Capa, will brief the Speaker’s Office this afternoon on the outcome of the meeting and of the follow-up meeting that will take place tomorrow evening.
