The Presiding Officers of Parliament, Speaker of the National Assembly Ms Baleka Mbete, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Ms Thandi Modise, on behalf of Parliament, wish all Muslims in South Africa Ramadan Mubarak.

Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection for Muslims, a time especially to cherish family and to show compassion to those less fortunate. For all of us it is a reminder of our common humanity and our commitment to the values of our Constitution – human dignity, the achievement of equality, the advancement of human rights and freedoms, non-racialism and non-sexism and supremacy of the Constitution.

May the month of Ramadan be one of peace and happiness for Muslims in South Africa and South Africa in general.
