SA: NCOP Committees assess Mpumalanga Local Government, Military veterans' livelihood and Limpopo relocation concerns

The Select Committees on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA); Security and Justice as well as the Select Committee on Petitions and Executive Undertakings will this week (29 August to 2 September 2016) conduct oversight visits in Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces.

On Tuesday 30 August, the Select Committee on CoGTA will be interacting with the Mpumalanga Provincial Government on how best to improve performance of municipalities in that province.

In the morning of Wednesday 31 August, the Select Committee on Security and Justice will conduct an in loco site visit of the Mpumalanga Air Force Base in Hoedspruit. From 2pm of the same day, the Committee will hold a meeting the Department of Defence and Military Veterans to assess the impact of service provision to military veterans.

On Thursday 1 September, Committee members will conclude their visit to Mpumalanga by conducting a site inspection of the Military Veterans Housing project.

Friday 2 September will see the Petitions Select Committee holding public hearings into a petition by the community of Ga-Sekhaolelo in Mokopane, Limpopo, where the residents have sought the Committee’s intervention regarding concerns over a relocation agreement entered into between the community and Anglo Platinum Mining Company.
