SA: Justice and Correctional Services Committee sends condolences

The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services sends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the eight Correctional Services officials who died this morning in a multiple vehicle crash near Swellendam in the Western Cape. They were on their way to work.

Committee Chairperson, Dr Mathole Motshekga, said it is saddened by the death of the individuals. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time.”

According to reports, the accident happened just after 7am on the N2 highway. Three cars were involved in an accident - a bakkie, a truck and a vehicle from Correctional Services carrying staff to the Buffelsjagrivier Correctional Centre. The Committee wishes a speedy recovery to those who were critically injured in the horrific collision. Eight people sustained minor injuries.
