Education Activist, Hendrick Makaneta condemned the burning of yet another school in the area of Vuwani. Schools are the only assets that can guarantee a better future for our learners. They remain the most visible and powerful instruments in the hands of our people.

Makaneta said that it was very heartbreaking to see South Africans burning a school to demand a road.

“We will never understand the reasons for burning schools no matter how many times it is explained” Makaneta said.

The burning of almost 30 schools in Vuwani in 2016 should have served as a big lesson, a lesson never to be repeated again.

“Government should take a tough stance on those who take their frustrations on schools.”Makaneta added.

We cannot allow people to gamble with the future of our children. Government must act with speed to restore the culture of learning and teaching in communities.
