SA: Communications Committee welcomes SABC Interim Board progress report

The Portfolio Committee on Communications has welcomed a progress report presented by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Interim Board on implementing the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee on the SABC Board Inquiry.

Acting Committee Chairperson Mr Lerumo Kalako expressed appreciation for the manner in which the Interim Board has moved with speed to stabilise corporate governance at the SABC, saying the Committee will await actions on other recommendations.

The Interim Board briefed the Committee on the SABC’s corporate and annual performance plan for 2017/18, as well as progress on implementing recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee on the SABC Board Inquiry.

The Committee welcomed the decision by the Interim Board to rescind the decision by the previous Board to take the Public Protector report on review at the South Gauteng High Court.

Mr Kalako said the Committee will continue to provide support to the Interim Board so that it is able to perform its fiduciary duties without hindrance.
