The Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans mourns the death of 10 members of the South African National Defence Force who passed away in a bus accident in the Free State.

“As their lives are celebrated in a memorial service today, the Committee wishes to join the rest of the country in sending heartfelt condolences to their families. We have lost the best amongst us and we are poorer as a result of their passing,” said Mr Malusi Motimele, the Chairperson of the Committee.

The Committee urges the Department of Defence to speed up the investigation into the cause of the accident to ensure that measures are put in place to prevent an incident of this nature from happening again.
