Maite Nkoane-Mashabane

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane is leading a South African delegation at the 3rd Joint Ministerial Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), taking place in Luanda, Republic of Angola, on Monday, 20 October 2014.

The South African delegation at the meeting includes the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

The purpose of the 3rd Joint Ministerial Meeting of the SADC and ICGLR is to consider the political and security situation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in line with the decisions of the previous meetings of the two regional bodies.

It is expected that the meeting will receive feedback from the Joint Mid-Term Mission on the progress of the voluntary disarmament of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (known by its French abbreviation FDLR) since the last meeting held in July 2014, consider the recommendations and take decisions on the way forward.

The South African delegation's participation in the meeting is informed by our country's foreign policy, which, amongst other things, is geared towards the maintenance of regional peace, stability and development.
