RTMC to host the 2015 National Road Safety School Debates Competition Finals

October is Public Transport Month: The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in collaboration with the Gauteng public safety department is hosting the National Road Safety School Debates Competition Finals on Friday, 9 October 2015 in Benoni.  The topics for the final debate are: 

1.    Should gruesome pictures and adverts of crash victims be used to discourage irresponsible use of the roads,  
2.    Persons convicted of drinking and driving should not be jailed but rehabilitated

The Minister of Transport, Honourable Dipuo Peters, MP will deliver a keynote address.

This is a project undertaken in response to the Decade of Action objectives to reduce road deaths by 50% in South Africa by 2020. MEC’s of Roads and Transport from various provinces will be in attendance including the RTMC board chairman Zola Majavu who will officiate the proceedings.

·         The project empowers learners with road safety knowledge as they have to research road safety topics,
·         It also enhances learners public speaking and analytical skills as they have to respond to points of information,
·         Encourages learners to work in teams and define their roles as a collective,
·         Improve listening skills of learners especially in the rebuttal phase of the competition and;
·         Enhance ambassadorial and leadership skills amongst learners.
