ROUNDTABLE ON BLACK INDUSTRIALISTS IN THE GREEN ECONOMY

24th June 2016

On the 29th June 2016, the Mapungubwe Institute (MISTRA) in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) will be hosting a Roundtable on Black Industrialists in the Green Economy. The focus of the discussion will be to explore options for implementation of some of the major insights from the MISTRA publication, Earth Wind and Fire (EWF): Unpacking the political, economic and security implications of discourse on the Green Economy. The production of the book was funded by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), through the Green Fund initiative.

Presentations and discussion at the roundtable will be framed using the following sub-themes:

1. The nexus between the environment, food, water and energy,
2. Skills development for Low Carbon Innovations and Alternative Energy Systems,
3. Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP), and
4. Waste Management.

Choice of these themes is informed by priorities of the National Development (NDP) and the National Framework for Sustainable Development (NFSD). The aim is to reflect on policy options and consider practical programmes to take these matters forward.
