Ramaphosa appoints judges to SCA, High Court, Labour Courts

One the advice of the Judicial Services Commission, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced significant appointments to the Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court, Labour Appeal Court and the Labour Court.

Judges Fayeeza Kathree-Setiloane and Anna Kgoele have each been appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal with effect from December 1.

The judicial appointees to the Gauteng Division High Court comprise of Advocate Soraya Cassim SC, Advocate Omphementse Mooki SC, Advocate Jacobus Strijdom SC, and Advocate Brad Wanless SC, all with effect from January 1, 2024. Professor Mbuzeni Mathenjwa has been appointed as a Judge in the KwaZulu-Natal Division with effect from November 1. 

In accordance with section 169(1) and 153(4) of the Labour Relations Act and on the counsel of the National Economic Development and Labour Council, Ramaphosa has also announced the judicial appointments of Portia Nkutha-NkontwanaKatherine Savage, and Andre van Niekerk to the Labour Appeal Court and Reynaud Daniels, Kelsey Allan-Yaman and Molatelo Makhura to the Labour Court with effect from January 1, 2024.

Ramaphosa said these appointments will affirm continuity in the administration of justice within all levels of the judiciary.

“President Ramaphosa wishes the newly appointed justices well as they take up their new roles in upholding the rule of law in the country,” said Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.
