Public Transport Voice would like to condemn in the strongest terms possible the acts of violence that that occurring in eThekwini municipality this morning.

Even though PTV condemns any acts of violence that happened to commuters, vandalized the municipal bus depot.  PTV calls for calm and an initiation of workable solutions to all parties affected by the violence. We are calling the police to bring the perpetrators in book and local government in that region to release the taxis were pounded.

Public Transport Voice-is an organization that advocates for quality and equality in the South African public transport sector. We promote the rights to equality and public transport, with the firm belief that these will enable the poor and working classes to an equal opportunity in life.

A further explanation of the organization is enclosed here should it be needed.

Back ground

20 years after the democracy the public transport system received by working class people in South Africa remains vastly unequal to an extent that some people are losing their jobs, students missing exams, people missing their appointments with doctors, jobs interviews. Despite attempts to overhaul the system, class and race-linked inequalities remain entrenched. Public transport system was the foundation upon which inequality was fashioned during the years of apartheid, but unequal public transport system opportunities still remain amongst the greatest obstacles to equality, dignity and freedom in today's South Africa.  In our attempts to grapple with these realities we feel that commuters have been very much a silent and marginalized stakeholder in the public transport sector – our aim is to usher in active participation and engagement between service providers and commuters
