President Zuma to visit the family of the murdered police officer

President Jacob Zuma will today, 03 August 2015, visit the family of Mr Simon Mabatamela, the member of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department who was brutally killed in the line of duty at a shopping complex in Johannesburg during an armed robbery.

President Zuma will visit the Mr Mabatamela family at their home in Katlehong in the east of Johannesburg, to provide support and offer his condolences on behalf of government and the people of South Africa. The robbery and killing was captured on CCTV and has drawn condemnation nationwide.

The President once again condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of police officers in the past week and reiterates his call on all members of the public to work with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and the creation of safer communities. He has urged members of the public to come forward with information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals.

President Zuma once again calls on law enforcement officers to defend themselves when attacked by criminals, within the ambit of the law.
