People's march against privatisation of Eskom and load shedding

26th February 2020

The march against the privatisation of Eskom and load shedding called by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) resonates with ATM policies.

ATM fully supports the objectives of this march. Privatisation is by nature a capitalistic project that puts the interest of profits ahead of development. ATM holds a view that the introduction of IPP’s and the permission to allow municipalities to procure directly from IPP’s including allowing self-generation by various mining houses are all intended to weaken the revenue generation stream of Eskom.

The weakening of the revenue streams of Eskom will undermine Eskom’s ability to service its long term debt and thus make it vulnerable to being taken over by private creditors.

We call upon all Servants, progressive structures, and supporters to join this progressive initiative “the people’s stand against the privatisation of Eskom and load shedding”.
