Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane on Thursday stated that Parliament must schedule the Motion of No Confidence against President Jacob Zuma for Tuesday, February 13.

The motion was originally scheduled for February 22 after it was requested by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and granted by National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete.

Maimane revealed that the EFF would be writing to Mbete to schedule an urgent sitting of Parliament on Tuesday.

Zuma is facing fierce calls from opposition parties and the African National Congress (ANC) to step down as State President.

Maimane said that South Africans need finality on the matter.

“South Africa cannot continue to be held in limbo while Cyril Ramaphosa and Zuma, and their respective factions, continue to fight over the terms of Zuma’s exit. We need a swift resolution to this impasse as soon as possible,” he said.

He also stressed that the DA “flatly reject” any amnesty agreement or special deal that could possibly be made to ensure Zuma’s exit.
